The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test is a great tool geared toward high school juniors considering college. The PSAT/NMSQT measures critical reading skills, math problem-solving skills and writing skills. Students take the PSAT/NMSQT in order to receive feedback about strengths and weaknesses, enter the competition for the National Merit Scholarship Program and to help prepare for the SAT.
The SAT, similar to the ACT (which all Juniors in the state of Wisconsin take each Spring semester), is a nationally recognized standardized test used predominantly by schools on the East and West Coasts. Although most colleges and universities which require standardized testing accept both the ACT and the SAT with regard to college admission, the ACT is used more commonly here in the Midwest.
If a student is applying for 504 or IEP accommodations on the PSAT/NMSQT, accommodations will be submitted for approval to the College Board. Please be sure to contact Missi Hahn in order to begin the accommodations application process as soon as possible. (Accommodations typically take up to 7 weeks to be approved by College Board.)
