    ATHLETICSOMS Athletics

     

    ART CLUB  

    Art Club meets Thursdays after school until 4:30 p.m.  All students are welcome to come and create with us during Art Club.  It is “open studio” - students can work on projects of their choice with the media of their choice in the Art Room and Innovation Lab.  Advised by Meghan Touhey, mstouhey@oregonsd.net.

     

    CHESS CLUB

    Chess Club is an opportunity for chess enthusiasts to play and practice during the lunch hour on Thursdays in the 7M team area. It is open to all levels of player, and individual instruction is available for those who wish to learn to play. As the year progresses we will engage in a mini- tournament and discuss the possibility of an off- campus tournament.     7th Grade DANCE CLUB

    Dance Club will meet every Thursday during 7th grade lunch from 12:20-12:50 in the Student Services Group Room.  This club gives students an opportunity to express themselves through movement, meet new friends, and have fun. Students will create and learn their own dances as a team.  Students will have the opportunity to perform their dances at a few school sponsored events during the year. This club is advised by Kelsey Offerman, krofferman@oregonsd.net, and starts in November.

     

    GENDERS & SEXUALITIES ALLIANCE

    Genders & Sexualities Alliance (GSA) is a student-run club that provides a safe place for students to meet, support each other, and talk about issues related to equality, sexual orientation, and gender identity and expression.  GSA works to end homophobia and transphobia. Our goal is to provide support, build community, educate, and take action to create change. This group meets during lunch on Wednesdays and as advertised after school. Seventh grade lunch meets in Mrs. Ripp’s room, (235d) and Eighth grade lunch meets in Ms. Wineke’s room (190B.) Advised by Katy Wineke, kmwineke@oregonsd.net, and Pernille Ripp, psripp@oregonsd.net.

     

    DR. WHO CODE CLUB

    This is for all kids who love the TV show Dr. Who.  The DR. WHO club is held during 7th grade lunch on Thursdays in Mrs. Ripp’s Classroom - Room 235d. Please contact psripp@oregonsd.net with questions.

     

    HOMEWORK CLUB

    Time:  Monday, Tuesday & Thursday from 3:20 p.m. - 4:20 p.m.

    Location:  Monday -  Room 228D, Tuesday & Thursday - Room 218C

    Purpose:  Homework Club is open after school for all students to attend in order to partake in quiet study or access equipment for school/homework purposes only. Homework Club supervisors are available to offer support to students with homework.

    Student Expectations:

    • Homework Club begins promptly at 3:20 p.m. Students should arrive on time and with any materials they might need.

    • Students must sign in upon arrival to Homework Club and write down what work they have brought to complete.

    • Students are encouraged to bring a snack with them to Homework Club. On occasion, a snack will be provided.

    • Students will be dismissed at 4:20 p.m. Parents are responsible for transportation home.

    Homework Club is a very positive and friendly environment, and we are delighted to be offering this to our students.  Supervising teachers are Stephanie Gilbert, sog@oregonsd.net, and Cassidy Heller, caheller@oregonsd.net.

     

    LITERAL PEOPLE

    This club is for students interested in writing poetry, short stories, or essays; drawing;  photography; and contributing to a literary magazine. They meet every Friday in Ms. Hatton’s Room (184 D) during lunch to work on creative writing, get feedback on their writing, and have fun!  Advised by Ms. Hatton lmhatton@oregonsd.net

     

    MADRIGAL DINNER  

    The OMS Madrigal Dinner is a dinner theater experience for any student at OMS.  Students rehearse and put on a drama production, choral concert and serve a 5-course meal to guests.  All parts are auditioned and range from non-speaking parts to lead roles. Parts include Jester, King, Queen, Royal Thespians, Royal Court Singers and Servants and Musicians.  Auditions are after school in room 303 on December 10 and 11 from 3:20-5:00. All rehearsals take place after school from 3:20-5:00. Performances are the evenings of February 8 and 9, 2019.  Directed by Heather Rattmann, her@oregonsd.net and Jennifer Yancey jay@oregonsd.net .

     

    OMS LIVE

    OMS Live is our school-wide news show that airs every Monday, Wednesday and Friday during Connections. It is run by Ms. Laibly, our PBIS Coach kjlaibly@oregonsd.net. Students have the opportunity to co-anchor, operate the camera, or run the slideshow and soundboard for one quarter. Interested students should fill out an OMS Live application and return it to Student Services. New ideas and feedback on how to make the program better are always welcome.

     

    PANTHER PRIDE STUDENT TEAM

    Interested students should get a Panther PRIDE team application and return to Ms. Laibly in Student Services. The students on this team are given the opportunity to help make decisions for our school and express their opinions on a variety of school related initiatives and issues. They  work with staff on assembly and/or special event planning and school-wide Plays of the Week, and also give feedback and problem solve around issues with the overall goal of improving the school climate. Meetings take place during Connections every Thursday. Ms. Laibly, PBIS Coach at OMS, facilitates this group. kjlaibly@oregonsd.net

     

    SKI/SNOWBOARD CLUB

    Students are invited to share enjoyable Friday nights throughout the winter with their OMS friends skiing or snowboarding at area hills like Cascade Mountain, Tyrol Basin, Devil’s Head and others.  Transportation, ski rentals and lift ticket packages available for students. These opportunities are organized through a partnership with Oregon Community programming and the Fitchburg Recreation Department.  Limited scholarships are available for those in financial need. Upcoming trips are being planned with dates to be determined.     STUDENT COUNCIL

    Student Council provides students an opportunity to work to improve both the school and outside of school community through the organization of events such as food drives, fundraisers and volunteering.  Student Council is a great opportunity for students who wish to hold a leadership role in the school community to make their voices heard and see their hard work create a better school and community environment.  See Mr. Gasner if you are interested in joining.     YEARBOOK CLUB

    Yearbook club designs, creates, and edits the middle school yearbook. This is a great club for students who want to be involved but don't have a lot of time to meet. Students can create the yearbook anywhere there is internet access, at a convenient time for them. Yearbook club meets once per week on Mondays beginning in October and running through March.  Advised by Meghan Touhey, mstouhey@oregonsd.net.
