Who is eligible for Oregon 4K? Our 4K is a community-based early learning program for four year old children residing within the Oregon School District. Children must be four years old by September 1.  There are no early admissions.

Where is 4K located? Children are taught in the Oregon School District’s 4K program in local community preschool and/or childcare settings. The play-based, developmentally appropriate programs are taught by highly qualified Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction licensed Kindergarten teachers.

When is 4K? Classes are held Monday through Thursday and one Friday a month for 3 hours. Some sites vary in start and stop times; see the "Hours, Schedules" tab for site-specific start and end times.  The calendar year is the similar to the K-12 public school calendar, but ends a few days earlier. See printable yearly calendar for details.

Is there a cost? This is a tuition free program.  Some sites offer optional extended child care.  Parents are responsible for child care costs beyond the 4K hours.  Students who reside outside of the Oregon School District will only be considered through the Department of Public Instruction's Open Enrollment program.

What is the focus? The district's 4K program includes a strong focus on parent-school communication, outreach programs, workshops and/or activities are regularly offered to families, free of charge.  All sites coordinate our 4K curriculum through the Oregon School District. Our play based curriculum is detailed on our 4K Curriculum tab.

When and where is registration? Families should attend our OSD 4K Orientation Meeting and visit 4K Open Houses. Online registration begins in early March of each year. Click on 4K Registration for details. Your family will receive a letter in the mail in May giving you information about your child’s 4K site and session.

Who are the teachers? Each site has at least one state licensed Kindergarten teacher and a para professional. Teachers work at each site but share professional development and curriculum design with the Oregon School District.

What if I need transportation? Transportation will be provided for AM students to and from school, if the child lives or is cared for with in the school district boundaries. Children living in the Brooklyn area will need to attend Heart of Brooklyn for transportation, while children in the Fitchburg area will need to attend Mariposa Learning Center for transportation.

Where are the 4K sites? The following sites are participating in the Oregon School District 4K Program: Heart of Brooklyn, La Petite Academy, Little Angels Early Learning Center, Mariposa Bilingual Learning Center, Oregon Daycare Inc., Oregon Preschool Inc., and Starlight Academy.
