Oregon School District Food Service

  • School meals have changed significantly since the National School Lunch Program started in the 1940's.  Not only have we changed the foods we offer, we've also improved the way we prepare food, how we serve it and the nutritional make-up of the meals.

There's a whole new way of looking at nutrition, too.  We have moved from the four components on the "Food Wheel," to the 5 components on the "Food Pyramid" and on to "MyPlate" and "1 Great Tray", each with 5 components.

  •  MyPlate Lunch Tray

We've also moved to allowing students in all grades to choose their entree, veggies, fruits and type of milk. And, even letting them serve some things themselves. We have moved from "Clean your plate" to "Take what you will eat, and eat what you take."  There are no deep-fat fryers and we have a variety of fresh fruit offered daily. We teach nutrition in the classrooms and the cafeterias.  We plant, grow, harvest, prepare and serve the freshest veggies, straight from our own hoophouses and gardens.
