Readiness for Learning Framework
Our Goal: Every Child Achieves
- Reduce distractions to help students engage and focus (focused & engaged learning).
- Promote and practice healthy eating (ample & balanced nutrition).
- Encourage kids to get enough sleep (sleep).
- Create a space where every student feels included and like they belong (sense of belonging).
- Prioritize and support students' emotional well-being (mental health).
- Ensure teachers have time to collaborate on practices that increase student achievement (high quality collaborative teaching).
- Starting Sept. 2, 2025: An updated policy to reduce cell phone distraction in class and enable more focus and engagement.
- Starting Jan. 5, 2026: A one-hour later Monday morning start for students to allow staff essential time in their Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) that impact student achievement.

Reduce Phone Distraction in Class
Starting September 2, 2025
Why It’s Important:
Increased Focus & Engagement
- Proposed updates to policies and practices aim to create a more focused and engaging learning environment by minimizing distractions.
- By reducing screen time during the day, students are better able to connect with their peers and teachers.
What This Means for Students & Families:
- Consistent Expectations: Updated practices to reduce cell phone distractions during the school day.
- Grade-Specific Expectations Starting Sept. 2, 2025:
- Grades K-6: Phones stay at home, or are in cubbies or lockers.
- Grades 7-8: Phones placed in caddies within the classroom (including learning labs); may check phones at lunch.
- Grades 9-12: Phones placed in caddies within the classroom (including regular study halls); may check phones at lunch and Responsibility and Privilege (RAP) study halls.

Why It’s Important:
High Quality Collaborative Teaching

Research shows that collaborating in effective Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) has a significant positive impact on student achievement.

Uninterrupted collaboration time ensures educators are able to analyze student data and evaluate student work to make changes that increase student achievement.
What This Means for Students & Families:
- Starting January 5, 2026, students start school one hour later on Mondays to allow teachers time for essential collaboration and learning that will impact instruction and improve achievement.
- Childcare Options: Available at each school (grades K-6) at no additional cost for families in need during the one-hour that teachers and school staff are meeting.
