Assessment

Student coloring

The Oregon School District agrees with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction's statement that well-constructed assessment systems lead to better learning outcomes for students. The OSD assessment system is based on five critical beliefs:

  • The most valuable assessment is formative and drives the teaching and learning process
  • Benchmark or interim assessments (e.g., STAR, MAP) allow teachers and learners to track growth and progress over time
  • Summative assessments (e.g. Forward, Aspire, ACT) provide snapshots of learner progress and inform OSD curriculum/instructional strategy choices
  • Multiple data points are reviewed when making instructional decisions
  • All children are so much more than their assessment scores - we strive to know our learners as individuals and consider the whole child when making instructional decisions
