The votes are in and Oregon School District students have spoken. The name of the District's 4th elementary school in the City of Fitchburg will be Forest Edge Elementary School.
The school name was announced by Student Council representatives Jenna Sharkus and Ethan Vandermause at the Oregon School District Board of Education meeting on Monday, December 16, 2019. A total of 2,476 of students in Kindergarten - Grade 12 voted from two options identified by the School Board in a previous meeting: Forest Edge Elementary School and Nine Springs Elementary School. 72% of students who voted chose Forest Edge Elementary.

Thank you to all students, parents, staff, and community members who submitted suggestions for the name of Oregon's 4th elementary school, located in the City of Fitchburg. Naming suggestions were accepted from August 28, 2019 through September 27, 2019.
We received a total of 204 names submitted for consideration! All name suggestions were shared with the Oregon School Board. The Board narrowed the choices to two finalists. The final decision was made by Oregon School District students, who voted on the finalist names.

- Aligns with Oregon School District mission;
- Adheres to School Board Policy 616;
- Represents the geographical area in which it is located;
- Will endure over time without controversy;
- Will not be confused with other regional school names;
- Translates well in other languages; and
- Easily pronounced by elementary school students.

Netherwood Knoll Elementary
Netherwood was the name of a family who settled in Oregon in 1856. Charles W. Netherwood (1843-1939) was a Civil War veteran and prominent Oregon leader who built two large business blocks. Mr. Netherwood held many town and county positions, including Chairman of the Board of Supervisors of Dane County, Oregon Village President, Town Treasurer, Oregon Board of Education member, and Village Postmaster.Prairie View Elementary
There are a number of prairies in our geographical area, which likely gave rise to the name Prairie View Elementary. Prairie View is a popular school name in Wisconsin and can be found in a number of school districts around the state, including Sun Prairie Area School District, Beaver Dam Unified School District, Mukwonago Area School District, School District of Holmen, and East Troy School District to name a few.Rome Corners Intermediate
Oregon was settled in 1841 and initially known as Rome Corners. When the Chicago and North Western Transportation Company came through the village in 1864, their maps indicated a name of “Oregon” and the name was adopted. A road named Rome Corners, located south of Oregon, remains today.
