Deliverables
To participate, a teacher who wants to join the Technology Integration Project must:
- Attend all course meetings
- Reflect upon and critically analyze their curriculum and teaching practices according to the National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers (NETS-T)
- Create a portfolio demonstrate how they meet the NETS-T -or- Develop and implement at least one technology-dependent, student-centered curriculum unit.
- Spend significant time outside of class learning new technologies, researching instructional methods, revising curriculum, and collaborating with colleagues.
- Present their project summary to colleagues, administrative team, or the Board of Education.
- Publish their work on the internet as a shared resource for other educators.
Structure
The Technology Integration Project is delivered as an after-school class with optional graduate credit from local universities. The program is designed as an interactive experience which relies on the shared interaction of participants, so attendance is mandatory.
Class meetings, dates, locations
A total of thirty (30) class hours are required to be eligible for two graduate credits from a partner university. Participants who wish to receive three graduate credits must complete an additional project which includes at least fifteen (15) contact hours.
You will spend significant time out side of class completing the course requirements. We will provide a broad overview of many technologies, and you are expected to pursue those which will benefit your instruction on your own. We are available to support you outside of class time, but we are not providing a "canned" product; this is for self-motivated teachers who can evaluate resources, choose the ones that work for their teaching environment, customize them to fit their needs, and apply them independently.
In response to feedback from participants, we are creating multiple, smaller learning cohorts, each with a different target audience and schedule. Please review the schedule options listed on the course year web page.
Technology Enhancements
Technology to support the curriculum unit will be determined as the unit is developed, and will be provided by the technology department during the school year. Technology equipment remains the property of the school district, but will be assigned to the participating teachers for the duration of their participation in the Technology Integration Project. It is the goal of the program to develop teachers who will encourage and assist others in the use of technology, so it is anticipated that the technology will stay with the teacher in future years. The amount of funding is typically limited to a maximum of $1,000 per full participant. The amount approved will be confirmed upon acceptance into the program.
Support and coaching
Support and coaching are vital components of teacher professional growth, especially for teachers who are not as comfortable on the “cutting edge.” After participating in this course, teachers are encouraged to pass on their experience and knowledge by encouraging, supporting, and coaching teachers who take this course the following year.
