I.    Levels of Competition

  II.    Schedule

A.  Each school plays single round robin schedule.  Two non-conference crossover matches will be scheduled between the North and South starting in the spring of 2011. (6/10/2009) Varsity match format is four singles players and three doubles teams with no crossovers.  Players play the best two of three sets with "add" scoring used.  The J.V. format is four singles players and three doubles teams with no crossovers, if possible.  Players play an 8 game pro-set with tiebreaker played at 7-7 using "no-add" scoring.

B.    The Badger Conference Tournament is played at Nielsen Stadium in Madison after completion of the dual meet season.  A Junior Varsity Tournament will be held the Saturday before the Conference Varsity Tournament. Varsity format is four singles players and three doubles teams with matches on the "championship" side of the bracket playing best two of three sets with "add" scoring.  The last place bracket at the Conference meet will be eliminated. The Badger Conference J.V. tournament format is four singles and three doubles teams. (11/10/05) To host the boys’ JV tournament host schools must have eight courts on site. (6/06/05) The site for the North tournament will be Waunakee. The site for the South tournament will be Oregon. The site for the North tournament will be Waunakee. The site for the South tournament will be Stoughton. If a school chooses to host the meet and has eight courts it can do so. The rotation for the school in charge of the tournament will be an alphabetical order. South: Edgewood 2008 etc. North: Portage 2009. (11/10/05).

C.   The Badger North (Six teams) will be made up of the following teams: Baraboo, DeForest, Portage, Sauk Prairie, Reedsburg, and Waunakee. Badger South (seven teams) will be Madison Edgewood, Fort Atkinson (2008), Milton (2008), Monona Grove, Monroe, Oregon, and Stoughton. The individual divisions will play round robin dual meets in their own division. The commissioner will schedule two crossover games. (6/10/09)

D.   Determinant North & South Conference Champions

1. 1 point for each conference match win within your division.

2. 1 Point for each division team a school places above in the North-South Conference Tournament.

Example:  Highest placement team in North gets 4 points added to dual total highest placement team in South gets 6 points added to dual total.

In case of ties:  In conference tournament, team with most champions will place above the other if still tied, team with most 2nd places above other, etc.

II.   Conference matches are to begin no later than 4:30 p.m.  By mutual agreement, the starting time may be earlier.

III.  Contest Procedure

A.  Warm up - Ten minute warm up.          

B.   Contest Management

1.  Host school will furnish tennis balls

2.  Players shall call their own matches; however a player may request line judges.

3.  If some conference schools cannot play a full J.V. team (10 players or more), it is expected that those schools will contact their opponents with the number of J.V. players available.

4.  All conference dual matches are to be completed prior to the seeding meeting for the Conference Tournament.

5.  Coaching is permitted in accordance with W.H.S.T.A. policy.

6.   An injury timeout will be enforced using the USTA rulebook and common sense. 

IV.  The Conference Tournament

A.     The conference tournament will be held to determine individual champions and team champion of the North and South.  It will be a single elimination tournament until the semi-finals.  Losers of the semi-finals will play for third place. The Badger Conference Commissioner will sign a yearly contract with the UW Nielsen Tennis facility which will set the dates for the Girls’ and Boys’ tournaments. (9/10/08) The commissioner will also receive the billing for the tournaments and after approval by the host school will instruct the conference treasurer to pay the bill from the tournament account. B.     Two rounds of matches will be hosted on each day of the conference tournament.

C.     Seeding of single and double matches of the Conference Tournament will be determined at the coaches meeting to held on Wednesday the week of the tournament. 

1.      In each part, 4 players/doubles teams may be seeded and it is possible to place a 5th player/doubles team.

2.      When seeding the Conference Tournament, first look at conference head-head matches when players have similar records.

D. The Badger Conference JV Tournament will use the four singles & 3 double format. (11/10/05) The tournament will use a pro set regular tournament play for the JV Conference Tournament. (6/04/08)

V.  Awards

A.  A trophy is awarded to the Conference Champion(s).

B.  Medals are awarded to the top four place winners in the conference tournament.

VI.  Meetings

A.  W.I.A.A. rules interpretation meeting.

B.  The conference coaches' tennis meeting is held on the Wednesday evening prior to the Conference Tournament at 5:00 p.m. at site of the host school or at a school mutually agreed upon.
