HOCKEY - GIRLS

 

 

I.   Levels of Competition

      A.        Varsity

 

II.  Schedules

      A. Varsity

The varsity schedule will be a ten-week double round robin (10 games) beginning in the 2008/2009 season.

           Schools involved are:

Reedsburg Coop (w/ Wis. Dells, Mauston)

Baraboo Coop (w/ Sauk Prairie/River Valley/Wisconsin Heights/Portage (2/11/2009)

Stoughton Coop (MG, Oregon, McFarland, Stoughton, Edgerton, and Fort Atkinson)

Sun Prairie Coop (w/Waunakee, Deforest)

Middleton Coop

Viroqua

 

III.  Starting Times

      A. Varsity Games

Due to the dependency of ice time from community rinks, the home school will set the game time between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.  On weekends, games may be scheduled to begin between 11:00 a.m. and 8:30 p.m.

 

IV.  Contest Procedure

A.  The home team will wear light uniforms and the visiting team will wear dark uniforms.

B.   Schools will provide their own towels.

C.  The home team will provide game and practice pucks.

      D.  Varsity Pre-Game Procedure:

1.   12 minute warm up – running clock.

            2.   Clean the ice.

            3.   Player introductions.

            4.   National Anthem

E.   Home team is responsible for calling the media with results.

F.      Varsity hockey games will be played with 17 - minute periods.

 

V.  Officials

      A.Varsity

Varsity officials for conference contests are assigned by the Conference Commissioner through the Dane County Hockey Association.

 

VI.  All Conference

A.  Each head coach will nominate his All-Conference candidates on forms provided by the Conference Commissioner.  The Conference commissioner will compile and provide copies for balloting.

B.   Coaches will vote at an end-of-the-season meeting.  The head coach or his representative will do all voting using a secret ballot. An appointed Athletic Director or Conference Commissioner will chair the meeting.

C.  Nominations may not be added at the meeting.

D.  A 6 player First Team and 6 player Second Team for each division will be selected consisting of the following members for each team:  3 forwards, 2 defensemen, 1 goalie.

E.   All voting will be done on a point basis as indicated below:

1.   2, 1 when voting for goal tenders.

2.   4, 3, 2, 1 when voting for defensemen.

3.   6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 when voting for forwards.

F.   Coaches may not vote for their own nominees.

G.  A coach may not vote equally for two or more candidates by averaging the number of points equal to the number of positions to be selected.

H.  Coaches may only vote for two goalies, four defensemen, and six forwards.

I.    Nominees (1 goalie, 2 defensemen, 3 forwards) receiving the greatest number of points will be the First Team All-Conference.  The next highest votes by position (1 goalie, 2 defensemen, 3 forwards) will be the Second Team All-Conference.

 

Honorable Mention players are decided by a second vote of players that did not make first or second team.  The top eight (8) of this vote become honorable mention.  Voting will be: 

1.      All Positions: 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1

 

In case of a tie for the second goalie, fourth defensemen, or the sixth forward, the criteria to break the tie includes:

1.  The candidates directly involved in the tie would   be re-voted upon.  All schools must vote except those with athletes involved.

2.  If they still remain tied, the tie will stand.

 

VII.      Championship

A.  The conference championship will be determined by counting two points for a win or forfeit, one point for a tie, and zero for a loss in all conference contests.

 

VIII.     Awards

A.  A trophy will be awarded to the conference champion(s) and medals (15).

B.  All-Conference First team receives a certificate, folder and medal.

C.  All-Conference Second Team receives a certificate and a folder.

 

IX.       Meetings

            A. WIAA rules interpretation.

B.     Winter Badger conference coaches’ meeting.

Dear Athletic Directors,

  

      Congratulations to those of you who have worked together with the ADs' of the Badger Conference to make Girls' Hockey league a reality within the Badger Conference. With the development of this new sport within the Badger Conference there are some costs that have to be shared with the new schools that will be participating within the Badger. $300 will be charged to all non - conference schools. This payment will cover all administrative costs as well as conference trophies and all - conference awards. This fee is charged to the host school of the coop schools Involved in the coop and will prorate the payment to the host school. An invoice will be sent to your athletic department. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to call or write me.
