Additional Information and
School Related Guidelines

Health Office

In case of illness during school, you may report directly to the health office.  The nurse or health aide will administer first aid or make necessary arrangements to have you excused from school if necessary.  No student should leave school due to illness without first reporting to the health office.  Any departure from school without checking through the office is considered unexcused.

Telephone Calls for Students

Students will not be called to the telephone from class or study hall except in case of an emergency.  The office will not take phone messages from employers and persons other than parents/guardians.  Parents/guardians should not call the school with messages except in case of an emergency.  Office telephones may be used by students only for calls authorized by the office personnel.  Students may not use telephones in classrooms without teacher permission.  A pay phone is provided for student use and convenience.  Students may not use the pay phone during class time.

Visitor’s Pass

All visitors must report to the main office and shall wear an identification badge or visitor sticker at all times.  Student visitors are not encouraged unless there are special circumstances.  Parents must contact the appropriate administrator to request approval for a student visitor.  Once administrative approval has been granted the student must get approval from their individual teachers.  Administrative and teacher approval must occur at least three days prior to the day of the visit.

Student and Visitor Responsibilities

Ó    Explain pertinent rules and procedures to your guest.

Ó    As you go to each class/study hall, introduce your guest to the teacher and make sure suitable seating is available.

Ó    Any visitor who refuses to obtain administrator’s approval upon entering the building or refuses to leave the building upon request by staff or administration will be referred to the Oregon Police Department for trespassing.

Ó    All visitors must wear an identification badge.

Work Permits

Many students have part-time jobs during the school term.  Any job, with the exception of domestic work or farm work, requires a work permit.  The State Industrial Commission also regulates the hours a high school student may work.  All working students should become familiar with these regulations.  Permits will be issued at the Oregon Pool.  The school has the authority to revoke a student’s work permit if the student is truant.

The following are necessary in order to apply for a work permit:

š   Note from parent/guardian requesting a permit

š   Note from the intended employer requesting a permit

š   Proof of age (birth or baptismal certificate)

š   Social Security Card

š   Payment fee of $5.00

Video Surveillance

The Oregon School District has authorized installation of a video camera system at Oregon High School.  The system exists for the purpose of establishing and maintaining a safe and orderly educational environment, for identifying disciplinary issues, for minimizing theft and vandalism, and for enforcing school policies and rules (Board Policy 9.04).

Student Responsibility in Case of Injury

If you are injured while in school or on the school grounds and require medical or dental treatment, and you want the school’s insurance coverage, the injury MUST be reported to the Health Office so authorization can be sent to the school insurance carrier.  If the injury occurs after school hours when the office is closed, the teacher in charge of the activity may authorize you to receive emergency treatment, but you must report the injury immediately to the Health Office the next business day so the report can be sent to the insurance carrier.

Insurance (School Coverage)

The school district buys insurance, which covers student accidents while at school.  This is a limited (scheduled) non-profit plan which will not necessarily cover the total expense.  If parents wish more coverage, they should provide their own insurance plan or purchase additional insurance from the student insurance company with whom the district has a policy.  Benefits are provided for students according to the plan in which they are enrolled for necessary medical, dental, or hospital expenses resulting directly from accidental bodily injury sustained while attending school during the hours and days when school is in session representing the school in a scheduled activity as a participant or spectator when the group is under the direction, control, and supervision of the school or its designated individual.  Students participating in athletics must purchase separate insurance.

Special Note:

Coverage is according to the plan in which Oregon High School is enrolled.  Only a school may report and file a request for benefits.  It is imperative your child report any injury immediately to the supervisor, teacher, or coach.  All injuries must be verified and confirmed by the school in order to qualify for benefits.
