Fairy Tale Clay Animations
The third grade students began this project by learning about different fairy tale stories. They studied the parts of a story and then began writing their own fairy tales. We used ipods to listen to different fairy tale podcasts and created a fairy tale quiz for the ipod for all to enjoy. We also used our new Smartboard to animate and record voices to the famous fairy tale "Goldilocks and the Three Bears." We began the claymation process by students collaborating in groups to create their own fairy tale stories. They created the characters out of clay in art class and designed storyboards and backgrounds. Once all those pieces were completed, students took pictures upon pictures to show movement of their claymations. In the end, a short movie was creating of their story. By having your child write stories at home, you can use different media to express their imagination and creativity.

3rd Grade Geometry Photostories
The third graders worked in cooperative groups to search for various geometrical shapes around the school. They used the digital cameras to take pictures of the shapes. Next, they imported the pictures and used their own voice recordings to describe each shape. Using the world around us to identify geometrical shapes can be easily incorporated into everyday life.

3rd Grade Human Body Photostories
In order to integrate balanced literacy into the science curriculum, the third graders researched and wrote power paragraphs explaining the functions of each body organ. The students then took and downloaded photos of each organ. Next, they recorded their paragraphs into ipods and incorporated them into individual or cooperative group photo stories. Research, writing, keyboarding, speaking and the use of current technology were multi layered and integrated into balanced literacy.
