OHS Dress Code
Wisconsin Statutes 120.12(1) and 120.13(1) give schools the right to specify a student dress code. These limits are imposed to promote health and safety, and to prevent disruptions, violations of the law, or excessive maintenance problems. Students have the responsibility to dress appropriately for school, to wear safety or special purpose equipment whenever it is required, and to wear apparel that does not interfere or disrupt the educational process.
The following are not to be worn in school:
v Clothes that cause excessive maintenance problems, such as cleats, golf shoes, rollershoes, etc.
v Shoes must be worn at all times
v Gang-affiliated jewelry or dress of any kind will NOT be allowed at any time
v NO heavy coats may be worn during class
v Pants worn in such a way that undergarments are visible will not be allowed
v NO bare midriffs, open-back shirts, halter tops, strapless shirts (tube tops) or single strap shirts may be worn
All shirts MUST have two straps
All shirts MUST cover the back, stomach, and cleavage
Any top that is too revealing or provocative will be considered inappropriate
v Garments bearing inappropriate, offensive, or vulgar slogans are not allowed
These include reference to sexual activity, alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs
v Caps may be worn in the building, if they meet the appropriateness standard above
Caps may only be worn straight forward or backward
Individual teachers may prohibit all caps in the classroom or may require cap removal in individual cases if it interferes with learning or safety
v No hoods are to be worn in school
