Oregon High School Computer Use Information
Oregon High School students have access to a variety of computers during unscheduled hours and study hall periods. Students may use computers before school, after school, during 10th hour, or during a study hall. Students are responsible for good behavior on school computer networks just as they are in a classroom or school hallway. Communications on the network are often public in nature. General school rules for behavior and communications apply.
The network is provided for students to complete classroom assignments, conduct research, and communicate with others. Access to network services is given to students who agree to act in a considerate and responsible manner. Parental permission is required. Access is a privilege – NOT a right. Access entails responsibility.
Individual users of the district computer network are responsible for their behavior and communications over the networks. It is presumed that users will comply with district standards and will honor the agreements they have signed.
Network files may be treated like school lockers. Network administrators may review files and communications to maintain system integrity and ensure that users are using the system responsibly. Users should not expect that files stored on district servers will always be private.
While our intent is to make Internet access available to further educational goals and objectives, students may find ways to access other materials as well. We believe that the benefits to students from access to the Internet, in the form of information resources and opportunities for collaboration, exceed any disadvantages. But ultimately, parents and guardians are responsible for setting and conveying the standards that their children should follow when using media and information sources. To that end, the Oregon School District supports and respects each family’s right to decide whether or not to apply for access.
We recognize that as a learning organization we share responsibility for control over access to inappropriate Internet materials. In light of that responsibility, we have initiated the following safeguards. The agreement will be for the years the student is enrolled at Oregon High School. If the parent decides to revoke Internet/email access, please call the associate principal or computer resource teacher. Students are responsible for the ethical and educational use of their own Internet account. These accounts are to be used only by the authorized owner of the account for authorized purposes.
The following activities are not permitted, as outlined in board policy. Understand that the following serves as a partial list:
