OHS Class Rank Calculations

Class rank is calculated after completion of the sixth, seventh, and eighth semesters.

Sixth Semester Rank in Class

v      This needs to be done by the end of June, prior to promotions or retentions based on credits.

v      The "class" includes all students who were enrolled in eleventh grade at the end of the spring semester.  The "class" includes students enrolled in Oregon High School classes and those enrolled in alternative placement programs.  The "class" does not include foreign exchange students.

v      Except for extended excused absences, incomplete grades must be converted to permanent grades by June 25.

v      Students are ranked according to their GPA, students who are in alternative placements or have been in self-contained special education classes more than 25% are given a "dual rank" or an "approximate" rank based on their accumulated GPA.

v      Fall transfers to Oregon High School are either given their quoted rank from their previous school or an "approximate OHS rank" based on their GPA and the Oregon High School rank list.

Seventh Semester Rank in Class

v      This needs to be done by the end of January before early graduates and transfers are processed.

v      The "class" includes students enrolled in twelfth grade during the fall semester.  The "class" include students enrolled in Oregon High School classes, alternative placement students, fifth year students who did not participate in the previous graduation (this would replace any previous ranking), and first semester transfer students to Oregon High School.  The "class" does not include foreign exchange students or a fifth year student with more than 21 cumulative credits from prior years.

v      Except for extended excused absences, incomplete grades must be converted to permanent grades by February 7.

v      Students are ranked according to their GPA, with three exceptions.  One, students who are in alternative placements or have been in self-contained special education classes 25% or more, or students with fewer than five semesters in a certified U.S. high school, are given a "dual" or "approximate" rank and are not eligible for the top rank-related honors or scholarships.  Two, transfer students with less than one full-time semester of OHS course work and grades are given an "approximate" rank and are not eligible for the top rank-related honors or scholarships.  Three, foreign exchange students are not ranked.

v      Scholarship and graduation honors that are GPA or class-rank dependent are based on the seventh semester rank.  Eighth semester grades will not affect that ranking.

Eighth Semester Rank in Class

v      This will be done by the middle of June.

v      Eighth semester rank will be calculated in a similar manner to seventh semester rank.

v      Eighth semester rank will be recorded and reported as requested but will not affect any previous honors or awards, unless that is specifically noted.

Other Semester Rankings

Rankings will be done for other semesters to allow students to chart their progress, but these will all be considered as approximate ranks.
