OHS Cheating Policy

Cheating (including plagiarism of print or electronic material) is considered the equivalent of stealing; and therefore, it requires disciplinary action by the classroom teacher.  Actions that will be taken are:

v      Timely notification of student

v      Timely notification to parent/guardian

v      Notification to administration

v      Loss of RAP privileges

Further actions which may be taken include, but are not limited to:

v      Designation of "F" or zero on assignment/quiz/test/exam

v      The opportunity to make up an assignment or re-take a quiz, test, or exam is at the discretion of the classroom teacher.

v      In addition, the student can expect that an incident of cheating may negatively affect his/her RAP rating and/or inclusion in the National Honor Society.  Any further incidents may result in more serious action(s) taken by the classroom teacher and/or the administration.

ACADEMIC HONESTY

All schoolwork submitted for the purpose of meeting course requirements must solely represent the efforts of the individual student. Any form of academic dishonesty is prohibited. A student engages in academic dishonesty when the student(s) submits academic product that contains material or information derived from other sources that are not acknowledged in the academic product.

Faculty and building administrators are responsible for monitoring student academic product, detecting academic dishonesty, and administering penalties.

When a teacher learns that a student has committed a form of academic dishonesty, the teacher shall contact the parents or guardian of the minor student and the building administrator to notify them of the incident.

Penalties for academic dishonesty shall be assessed by the teacher, under the direction and advice of the building administrator, and may include the following actions:

v    Loss of Responsibility Pass privileges

v    Designation of an “F”, zero, or no credit on the academic product that was involved in the academic dishonesty

v    Exclusion from the National Honor Society

v    Loss of co-curricular privileges

v    Redo the academic product

The student or the parent/guardian may appeal the penalty to the Superintendent.  If there is an appeal, the Superintendent shall meet with the teacher and building administrator and the student/guardian about the incident and the penalty.
