Marilyn Murphy

Welcome to Netherwood Knoll’s web page. I hope you find the information useful and helpful.

My name is Marilyn Murphy and I am the principal at Netherwood. I have been in the district for several years. My experience in Oregon began in 1975 when I was hired to teach in a multi-aged 5th and 6th grade classroom. Since then I have taught students in grades 3 – 6. As a teacher, I had leadership responsibilities on various committees and as a team leader. While teaching, I also was a Gifted and Talented resource person for teachers in my building.

I have always been interested in learning about how children learn. Consequently I have taken many classes beyond my Master’s degree and have attended multiple conferences and workshops. When I was teaching, students soon caught on and would ask me if I had been to another workshop when I tried a new idea!

In 2001 the Oregon School District implemented an administrative intern program. I was selected to be one of those interns and began to take classes for my administrator license. I was fortunate to be able to continue working at Netherwood Knoll in the administrative intern capacity until the fall 2004 when I became the assistant principal at Netherwood. As an administrator, I have become interested in how adults learn and have taught a variety of classes to staff members and parents. Now the teachers ask me if I was at another workshop!

I feel strongly that children should have a safe environment, both emotionally and physically, in which to learn. Much of my energy as an assistant principal was used to promote responsible behavior. I find it very rewarding to be able to help children use appropriate problem solving strategies. If you feel your child needs assistance in this area or if you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. (mjm@oregon.k12.wi.us)
