According to the Wisconsin Department of Instruction, “Family and Consumer Education is the study of relationships among individuals, families, and the community environments in which they live, work, and contribute with integration and application of knowledge from several disciplines such as English/language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.”
That’s a lot of words! Basically, what that means is:
  • Family and Consumer Education at Oregon Middle School is a class that challenges students to see the impact of daily choices on the local and global community.
  • Students will actively participate in hands-on and simulated experiences and reflect on the application of what they are learning in everyday life.
  •  Curriculum in the class will cover work of the family, self development, and contributions to society.
  • Other units in the class will cover; kitchen skills, food pyramid/nutrition, healthy eating on-the-go,self image, bullying and respect for others, and drugs and alcohol.

Students will be in Family and Consumer Education  everyday for an entire semester
