About Ms. Fakler
When I was a freshman at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, I thought that I wanted to be a chemical engineer. Well, learning about how fluids flowed did not sound all that exciting, so I switched my major to political science.
The next semester, one of my German professors approached me about the possibility of studying in Germany. Before I knew it, I was off to the Albert Ludwig's Universität in Freiburg for a year. I lived in student housing with a large handful of Germans, took classes in German, and even wrote a 25 page paper in German!
I returned to UW, finished my coursework, and graduated with degrees in German and political science. A couple of months after graduation, I was on a another plane for Germany.
I had been awarded a Fulbright Scholarship. The U.S. Department of State and German government were paying me to teach English in a Gymnasium, a college preparatory middle/high school!
After my second year in Germany, I knew that I wanted to be a teacher. I returned to the United States and went back to school to become certified to teach German and Social Studies. I am certified to teach German, History, Political Science, Psychology, Economics, and Broadfield Social Studies to students in grades 6-12.
I taught German at Oregon Middle School for five years, and I have been teaching social studies at Oregon High School since the fall of 2009.
TRAVEL: Some of the countries I have visited: Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, France,
England, Denmark, Sweden, The Netherlands, The Czech Republic, Belgium, Luxembourg, Canada, and Mexico.
